Five ways to acquire new customers

Whether you are just starting out or have been running your business for a long time, are a small company with a handful of employees or a large corporation, something we all have in common is the need for new customers.

These days, every business has to work hard to attract new customers so we have gathered a few ideas that can help you bring in new business.

1. Word of mouth works

If you’ve already got a number of customers, give them an incentive to recommend their friends. If each current customer recommended one friend, you could double your customer base very quickly! The “recommend a friend” idea is widely used from small to large businesses. You could offer your customers money off their next purchase when they recommend a friend or you could always reward them with a gift to say thank you. 2. Make your website customer friendly

If your online presence doesn’t compare to those of your competitors, then it needs updating. Fast. If there isn’t a good journey for customers to follow on your website, then chances are they will leave and carry on searching elsewhere.

Spend some time making sure your website is consistent throughout and engages potential customers. Make sure you have plenty of ‘Calls to Action’ to capture your visitor’s attention. You now have potential customers who are genuinely interested in your business. Not everyone wants to buy there and then, so sending information regularly to these customers will help to keep awareness of your business and increase the chance of conversion to purchase over time.

3. ‘Like’ Social Media

Regardless of your business, there is a social media site for you. Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are great for exposure and increasing your brand awareness. They can give you valuable insights into your audience. And allow you to engage first hand with your existing and potential customers. Just don’t use your social media page to sell, sell, sell. Use it to engage with your audience and create conversation. It is social after all.

Get connected with your existing customers as well as friends, acquaintances and other professionals, and use this as a door opener to connect with more potential customers across the network.

Facebook is great for consumer businesses, especially for small organisations. For example, if you are a small business you may find it useful to join local groups, and interact with people from your community. This can build trust between your company and potential customers and also promote your business name locally.
Twitter can and is being used by all types of businesses. It’s especially popular as a customer service tool and allows you to connect with people all over the globe.

4. Utilise PPC

These days the majority of businesses are using paid search advertising to gain new customers. If you aren’t – you can guarantee your competitors are. PPC or pay per click advertising can put you right at the top of a google search, and straight in front of your new customers. PPC can be utilised by any business and can have a huge impact on the leads you can generate. Depending on how many other businesses are bidding on the same keywords and search terms as you, it can cost as little or as much as you like.
