There is a real buzz around AfB, underpinned by a friendly supportive atmosphere. Everyone is encouraged to get involved, to help develop and shape both the business and themselves. Regular 1-2-1’s and business briefing sessions ensure everyone is a stakeholder in the way the business moves forward, with the opportunity to challenge and drive change.
I have been encouraged to develop and enhance specific skills for my role through a combination of external marketing training courses, internal self-development sessions and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing from both suppliers and colleagues across the wider group. The business certainly encourages constant development, and recently launched its own Academy programme to encourage online learning and self-development at a pace to suit each individual within AfB.
I have the opportunity to make an impact on the future of AfB, and it’s exciting to be able to shape the performance of such a large business. A crucial aspect for me personally is being encouraged to try new ideas, which fits perfectly with my need to be creative as an essential aspect of my role.
Customers are at the heart of what we are trying to achieve, and we work with a really diverse mix across many industries, giving a different and interesting challenge every day.
There are many fantastic opportunities and options to get involved in; a great benefits package; involvement in charity work and fundraising; a social club organising regular sports and events, and Milton Keynes is a great city in which to work.
To work for AfB I think you need a desire and ability to get involved; to be a team player who can work on their own initiative and be hands-on. You need the ability to understand processes associated with a large retailer, but be driven and determined enough to try new things in our B2B environment. The leadership and support is there if needed, but we are actively encouraged to help shape the business and make things happen ourselves, requiring personal drive and determination.
